Tips for a Standout Essay
1.  DEVELOP A THEME

Don't just write about what activities or community services, that will be on your resume; write about something that is not obvious about you (maybe a community service you are passionate about and the outcome of your services.
2.  PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD

Grammar and spelling errors are the first step to not being accepted into your chosen institution or granted a scholarship.  You proofread and then have someone else to read your work.  Make the corrections and proofread again.
3.  THINK CRITICALLY

As you proofread, think about every sentence and every paragraph critically.
4.  ASK FOR EDITING HELP

Your friends or teachers may have some ideas that can help your admissions essay become that one element that pushes you over the top and gets you into the college of your choice or the scholarship.
5. REVISE ACCORDINGLY

As you work through these steps, revise your essay accordingly.  Each time you do, go right back to step number one and edit your essay again.
