Essay Prompts

An essay may be required for some college and scholarship applications.  Each will be tailored to fit the specific application.  Below is a list of questions that will help build a solid college essay.  Remember, the more the better, it can always be altered. 




-What is your plan for obtaining and completing your college certificate/degree.

-Why is education important to you?

-How will you contribute to your local community after completing your college education?

-What obstacles have you overcome?

-Write about your short & long-term goals.

-Explain how you plan to pay for your postsecondary education and why you need financial assistance.

-Why did you choose your major of study?

-Why do you want to go to college?

-Where do you see yourself in 10 years? 

-What was the environment in which you were raised?  Describe your family, home, neighborhood, or community, and explain how it has shaped you as a person.

-Some students have an identity, an interest, or a talent that defines them in an essential way.  If you are one of these students, then tell us about yourself.

-You’ve got a ticket in your hand – Where will you go?  What will you do?  What will happen when you get there?
